Here are the details of our 2001-5 vintages, including region, Winemaker and Winemakers notes. Also see our long PDF list of wine show awards .

2005 Vintage

Vineyard Region: BAROSSA VALLEY

Nestled in the sub-region of  Dorrien at 250m above sea level, this is a prime location for our premium vineyard due to the climactic and soil aspects conductive to grape growing. See our 2005 viticultural pratices PDF sheet for details.

Grape Variety: SHIRAZ

Maturation:  Matured for 14+months in 70% new 228L French oak barriques and 30% 2-3 year old American oak barrels. The medium toast long barriques are chosen for their roasted toast characteristics, which adds complexity and a fuller mid palate.

Winemaker:  Neil Pike, Pikes Wines, Clare Valley

Winemaker Notes:

Colour: Deep red colour - almost black.

Nose: Luscious aromas of super-ripe dark berry fruits, dark chocolate and mocha along with plum puddings notes are evident on the nose.

Palate: Rich, dark fruit cake flavours with hints of liquorice and big dallops of sweet blueberry flavours. Fine tannins and a touch of toasted oak give length and balance to a flavour packed palate.

Aging potential:  This is lovely rich, ripe Barossa shiraz with good structure. Enjoyable now but can be cellared.

Wine Analysis: 15.5 % Alc/vol.

2004 Vintage

SILVER- 2006 Australian Small Winemakers Show

Vineyard Region: BAROSSA VALLEY

Grape Variety: SHIRAZ

Maturation:  15 months in 70% new French oak and 30% 2-3 year old American oak barrels

Winemaker:  Neil Pike, Pikes Wines, Clare Valley

Winemaker Notes:

Colour: Deep red colour, purple/blue tint

Nose: Aromas of super ripe dark berries and satsuma plum, perhaps tending towards the prune spectrum ,with classy mocha/coffee grinds oak underlying the fruit;

Palate: Very rich, dense palate of chocolate and plums/prunes with slightly chewy tannins, charry oak and apparent alcohol.
Quite a big wine that will need a little time in bottle to soften and come together.

Aging potential:  A lovely rich, ripe Shiraz with good structure. No problem to cellar for 5-8 years.

Wine Analysis: 14.6 Alc/vol.

Our write-up in the May 27th issue of The Australian by Max Allen on our 2004 Syna…” By day Paul Georgiadis works for a big multinational wine company; by night (or at least in their own time) he and wife Mara grow their own intensely flavoured shiraz grapes, which Clare winemaker Neil Pike turns into rich but complex, subtly spicy red wine.”

88 pts. James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2006

Vineyard Region: BAROSSA VALLEY

Grape Variety: SHIRAZ

Maturation: 12 months in 70% new French oak and 30% 2-3 year old American oak barrels

Winemaker: Neil Pike, Pikes Wines, Clare Valley

Winemaker Notes:

Colour: Consistent rich purple that is on par for an extracted style of this vintage

Nose: Comes alive with time, delivering punchy fresh, vibrant fragrances of white flowers, toasty coconut, and a welcoming rich complex of sweet and dried black fruits with and underlying smoked meaty flavour.

Palate: Complex and vast and in definite need of time to open up. The notes following are broad as there is evidence of fresh vibrant fruit and over-ripe, jammy characters as well. Developing notes of plum, prune, red currant and cassis are balancing well but give way to the smoky oak, dark chocolate and tobacco flavours that are in abundance. The acids are strong, fresh and promisingly young, coupled with the tannins that are ripe, tight and prominent.

Aging potential: 5+ years

Wine Analysis: 13.5% Alc/vol.
