We are extremely fortunate to call the iconic wine growing region of Marananga ‘home’. At Paulmara Estates, we take pride in our work nurturing the land and the vines that produce beautiful fruit, in order to create some of South Australia’s best wines.

One we are particularly proud of for winning BEST SHIRAZ FROM 2020 OR YOUNGER at the 2021 Marananga Wine Show and BEST 2020 SHIRAZ at the 2021 Barossa Wine Show, is the aptly named 2020 MARAnanga Shiraz. 🏆🍷

It is an honour to be recognised for our labour of love, showcasing the uniqueness of the Barossa’s Western Ridge.

As Australia’s only subregional wine show, the Marananga Wine Show awards the very best of Barossa’s Western ridge district. Pictured: Winemaker Jason Barrette, owner Mara Georgiadis and viticulturist Paul Georgiadis.

This year’s Barossa Wine Show recognised our 2020 MARAnanga Shiraz as one of the region’s very best wines.

Wine Companion gives 2017 Limited Release Syna Shiraz 94 points

“Hand picked from a single estate vineyard in Marananga, planted 1995. Matured 18 months in 30% new French oak barriques; unfined and unfiltered. The concentrated black-fruit density and impact that defines Marananga finds a tangy drive in the cool 2017 season. Firm French oak sits before the fruit in both nutty flavour and firm tannin grip. It holds the persistence and structural integrity to hold out until fruit and oak ultimately unite.”

Cypriot Variety Trial at Paulmara Estates

We are helping our friend, Alex Copper, with his PhD research, looking into the viability of Xynisteri and Maratheftiko in the Barossa Valley’s geology and microclimate. In October we will be receiving the young vines to be planted. Over the growing seasons Paul and Alex will be able to look at how the varieties are performing, with the ultimate goal of making wine that truly expresses their nature. Pictured here are brown loam soil over tight red clay and shattered ironstone.
